On August 7, a new exhibition titled "Our goal" will open at Squat 17b in Kyiv, showcasing the works of artist and serviceman Sasha Kom'yakov.
The exhibition features 50 graphic pieces by Alexander Kom'yakov, a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, displayed at the Gallery of Protest Art at the Maidan Museum. This exhibition reveals fresh perspectives on the present-day realities faced by military personnel.
As an active member of the Armed Forces, the artist continues to explore military themes in his work.
His pieces are not merely studio works; they are actual reports from the front line. Sasha paints on location during his deployments, creating portraits, reports, and infographics, with further detailing done afterwards.
Most of the works featured in the exhibition were completed before his mobilization.
"This is a series of prints titled ‘Glory to Ukrainian Weapons,’ part of the author’s project Ukrainika, which began in 2015 and is currently on hold," the organizers state.
Additionally, prints from the project “Cats of the Armed Forces” - a sticker pack featuring funny cats for messaging apps, created in 2022, will also be on display.
Among the exhibition pieces is the print “Dvizh” - an original multicolor linocut reflecting the volunteer movement created during the artist's service.
"Also featured are the works ‘Hummvee/Pouring’ and the emblem print ‘Varyag Squad’ for the unit where Anatoly - Sasha's comrade - serves. He is a significant inspiration for this exhibition, as all proceeds from the sale of prints and merchandise will be sent to Anatoly for the purchase of a genium x4 microprocessor knee joint to facilitate his return to service," the organizers added.
They also highlighted the Ukrainika project, which provided items for the exhibition at 100% cost for fundraising.
"The prints available for purchase at this exhibition were sent to the author at his positions for personal signatures, making them even more special," the announcement states.
The exhibition will run from August 7 to September 3 inclusive. Curator - Nadia Antonez.
The opening ceremony will take place on August 7 at 19:00
Where: Squat 17b (Tereshchenkivska, 17b).
