The capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, hosted a grand event celebrating the winners of the «Person of the Year 2024» awards, which honor significant professional and societal achievements. The ceremony was led by hosts Kateryna Osadcha and Yuriy Horbunov.

The «Mayor of the Year» nomination recognizes community leaders who have made substantial contributions to city development, infrastructure improvement, and enhanced living standards for residents.

The award was presented to Hennadiy Trukhanov by Mykhailo Pozhivanov, a member of parliament, who remarked that it was a great honor to congratulate the best mayor in Ukraine.

«Odessa today is a city that supports the military, home to nearly 100,000 internally displaced persons, and one that courageously faces all challenges,» emphasized Pozhivanov.

Hennadiy Trukhanov expressed his gratitude for the award, which he sees as a symbol of trust:

«I am thankful to every resident of Odessa and every Ukrainian who works for the benefit of their community. This is recognition of our indomitable Odessa - Mother Odessa, which cares for everyone: the displaced, the military, and those in need of warmth and support. Our team works daily: we assist the Armed Forces, create rehabilitation facilities, prepare the city for the wellness season, and launch new initiatives such as the Accessibility Council, established together with veterans,» noted Trukhanov.

During his speech, the mayor of Odessa thanked the military and invited them for rehabilitation in Odessa. He also shared his most painful experiences:

«Here, it has been said how hard it is to bury comrades. But I will speak frankly: the most terrifying thing is burying children whom we pull from the rubble. This is unforgivable. Every murderer will be met with punishment - both earthly and heavenly,» said Trukhanov, stressing that victory will inevitably belong to Ukraine.

«Odessa is strong. Odessa is alive. And we will hold on - for those who are with us, and for those we have lost,» concluded Hennadiy Trukhanov.
