Two veterans from the Main Intelligence Directorate have successfully conquered the Himalayas.
The expedition featured Ivan Tarn from the "Artan" special unit and Oleksandr Dashko from the "Kraken" unit, as reported by the GUR.
They were accompanied by professional climbers Tetiana Yalovchak and Taras Pozdnii, reaching the base camp of "Everest" at an altitude of 5280 meters.
"It's incredible! It's hard to believe that this is reality. It looks like you're staring at a huge wallpaper," shared Ivan Tarn.
The participation in this project was a serious challenge for the veterans.
"Many doubted my ability because of my significant amputation. When I shared this adventure, people told me: 'Even those with two legs can't climb there, and you with your amputation – you should not risk!' I found it hard, but this climb needs to show others with amputations that life goes on," emphasized Oleksandr Dashko.
The expedition took place as part of the Limitless project, aimed at raising awareness of the issues faced by veterans with amputations and raising funds to combat phantom pain.
"Until now, no Ukrainians with amputations have reached this summit. It's more than just a trek. It's proof that there are no limits for those who have a goal. Proof that life continues after amputation.
This ascent is for everyone fighting, recovering, and striving to live fully despite everything," states the project page.
Earlier, we shared the story of Ukrainian defender Roman Kolesnyk, who lost a leg on the front lines and undertook a trek in the Carpathians on a prosthetic limb to raise money for the military.
