Cashless Travel in Kyiv: New Opportunities

The Kyiv City Council has made a decision to support a petition regarding the implementation of cashless payment systems for private carriers.

This information has been confirmed in the response from the City Council regarding the mentioned petition.

It is noted that since 2018, Kyiv has allowed the use of cashless payments in public transportation, and this does not apply to the ownership structure of carriers.

Thus, currently, according to the existing legislation of Ukraine, the automated fare collection system (AFCS) is ready to connect all passenger carriers in Kyiv. This connection is made based on a service agreement with its operator.

From May to August 2023, one route serviced by a private carrier was connected to the AFCS in test mode. Testing results confirmed that the AFCS is prepared to work with private carriers.

"Considering that the issue raised in your electronic petition No. 13388 'Introduction of cashless payment for travel on private carrier routes' will enhance the quality of passenger transportation and meets current demands and the requirements of existing Ukrainian legislation, the executive bodies of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) will take measures within their powers," the response states.

As a reminder:

  • In December 2023, the Kyiv authorities did not support a petition for the installation of validators for travel payments in the capital's taxi services.
