Car Arson Incident in Kyiv: Investigation Details

The "Nissan Leaf" that was completely destroyed by fire on April 7 in Kyiv belonged to a 67-year-old doctor. Authorities have reported a suspect in the arson case.

According to Araik Kochadamyan, the head of the Holosiivskyi police department, a 36-year-old resident of the Kirovohrad region is implicated in the crime.

Direct quote: "The suspect arrived in the capital with a prepared canister of gasoline. While near the vehicle owned by the 67-year-old doctor, he doused it with a flammable substance and set it on fire. After the car ignited, the perpetrator attempted to flee but was apprehended nearby."

Police seized a lighter and a canister of flammable liquid from the arsonist. The motive for the crime is currently being established.

Additionally, police found that the suspect used force against one of the witnesses during his escape and threatened him.

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor's Office, have charged him with criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 194 (intentional damage to someone else's property by fire) and Article 129 (threat of murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The decision regarding preventive measures for the suspect is currently being made. He faces up to ten years in prison for his actions.
