As of September 14, 2025, the reserves of natural gas in Ukraine's underground storage facilities (UGS) have exceeded last year's values for the first time this year, reaching 12.055 billion cubic meters.

This information was reported by the specialized publication ExPro.

Thus, on September 14, 2025, 12.055 billion cubic meters of natural gas were stored in Ukraine's UGS, compared to 12.05 billion cubic meters on the same date in 2024, which is 0.05% or nearly 5 million cubic meters less.

It is anticipated that this gap will widen in the coming days.

The publication also reminded that at the beginning of the current injection season (April 17), approximately 5.41 billion cubic meters of natural gas were stored in Ukraine's UGS, which is 35% or 2.95 billion cubic meters less than on April 17, 2024. Throughout the injection season, Ukraine managed to fully close this gap, primarily through increased imports.

Since the beginning of the injection season, nearly 6.68 billion cubic meters of gas have been injected into Ukraine's UGS, which is 1.67 times more than in 2024. Moreover, in 2025, more gas has been injected into the storage facilities than was stored in UGS at the end of the heating season.

Specifically, in September 2025, Ukraine is injecting an average of 53.9 million cubic meters of natural gas into storage daily, which is 2.3 times more than in September 2024. About half of the injection volumes consist of imported resources.

The average daily import volume in September is 23.6 million cubic meters, almost entirely supplied by the state-owned company Naftogaz of Ukraine.

It should be noted: The filling of European Union underground gas storage facilities reached 80% (86 billion cubic meters of natural gas) as of September 13-14. This is the lowest filling rate in the EU since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, however, this year's reserves are higher than in 2021.
