The police staged a mock murder, sending fake evidence to the client. The suspect was arrested during the final meeting when he handed over the remaining funds — $10,000. He faces life imprisonment.
At the beginning of September, the National Police received information about an individual attempting to hire a killer. The investigation led to identifying the perpetrator, the intended victim, and the motives behind the murder plot.
The mastermind, who lived with a 24-year-old woman, decided to take revenge after their relationship ended, fueled by jealousy and alleged financial issues during their time together.
He actively sought a perpetrator while police monitored the entire planning process.
The contractor wanted his ex-partner killed with a knife in a café, but the hitman insisted on using a firearm. After discussing the details, the client paid an advance of 15,000 hryvnias.
To save the woman's life, the police conducted a special operation, staging her murder. The hitman sent photos of the 'victim' after which both parties agreed on the final payment.
During the transfer of the second installment of $10,000, operatives arrested the organizer of the murder attempt. The money was seized at the scene.
The suspect has been informed of charges under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the organization and preparation for murder. The court has placed him in custody for 60 days without the right to bail.
The penalty for the charges can be up to 15 years or life imprisonment.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Criminal Executive Service of the Ministry of Justice under the supervision of the Sumy regional prosecutor's office.
