A newly established canine center has officially opened in the Kyiv region, funded by American philanthropist Howard Buffett. The event was attended by prominent officials, including Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko.
Participants had the opportunity to explore the center's infrastructure, which includes administrative buildings, kennels, and a veterinary complex.
"It is crucial for this center to become an integral part of our infrastructure. We must ensure effective operations to restore life in our cities and communities," said Yulia Svyrydenko.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to police officers serving in canine units for their dedication and efforts in maintaining a safe environment.
This center stands out for its inclusivity: it features the first elevator in a canine center in Ukraine for individuals with disabilities, and plans to introduce animal-assisted therapy for veterans.
Additionally, a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic has been opened, providing a wide range of services for service dogs. A unique Aqua-runner treadmill for rehabilitating animals is also implemented here.
Previously, the canine center located in Irpin was destroyed during combat. Minister Klymenko expressed his gratitude to Howard Buffett for his support and initiative in establishing the new center.
"This center is the best in Europe. Thank you for your assistance," the minister emphasized.
Since the start of the war, canine units of the police have conducted numerous missions that led to the resolution of thousands of crimes.
Howard Buffett also spoke at the event, highlighting the significance of supporting law enforcement, as he himself has experience serving in the police in the United States.
At the end of the event, a bronze statue symbolizing the dedication of law enforcement to ensuring public safety was unveiled.
"This is a gift from American canine handlers who greatly value your work," Buffett concluded.
After the ceremony, the minister inspected a training area for dogs located by the lake.
