Starting in December, Ukraine will launch a Registry of areas contaminated or potentially contaminated by explosive items, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko stated in an interview.
The meeting with the Minister took place in Cherkasy during the training of the State Emergency Service units. Ihor Klymenko emphasized that since the onset of the large-scale war, the emergency services have cleared over 250,000 hectares of land, removing and destroying 790,000 explosive items.
The Minister noted that specialists are working diligently to ensure that the Registry of contaminated areas begins operations, and by 2026, it will be available to legal entities. After testing, access will also be granted to individuals who hold ownership rights to specific plots of land.
Additionally, while visiting the training site for diver-sappers, the Minister announced plans to increase the unit's personnel to 500 people. This is part of the broader demining strategy:
«The demining system can be divided into several levels: the Office for Mine Action, the Humanitarian Demining Center, certification of specialists, and underwater demining. This system is already in place and functioning effectively», — said Ihor Klymenko.
