Russian propaganda outlets are disseminating false claims that Russian hackers allegedly breached the database of the Ukrainian General Staff and accessed information about «1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian soldiers» since the onset of the full-scale war.
This was reported by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine via Telegram.
«Kremlin-controlled propaganda resources are making statements that Russian hackers have hacked into the General Staff's database and obtained information about «1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian military personnel» since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In reality, this is a completely absurd fake, as Ukraine has never had a regular army of 1.7 million since gaining independence,» the statement reads.
It was noted that as of January 2025, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the size of the Ukrainian army was 880,000 personnel. The President also stated that Russian military losses on the frontlines are three times higher than those of Ukraine. The Center for Counteracting Disinformation reminded that according to the General Staff's data, as of August 20, Russians have lost 1,072,700 personnel killed and wounded since February 24, 2022, which negates the fabricated figures from Russian propagandists regarding Ukrainian losses.
"The aim of this fake is to demoralize Ukrainians, convince the world of the «exhaustion and inefficiency of the Armed Forces of Ukraine», and weaken its international support," emphasized the Center for Counteracting Disinformation.
