A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, at the railway station in the village of Chepiliyivka, located in the Bila Tserkva district. Around 05:50, a train fatally injured a woman. The station dispatcher promptly notified the police about the deadly event.
According to the Kyiv region police, the woman sustained injuries that were not compatible with life and died at the scene. Investigators are currently working to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the victim.
Investigators and forensic experts are also determining whether the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, whether she accidentally fell under the train, or if it was a deliberate act.
According to railway officials, the most common causes of tragedies on the tracks are haste, inattention, and undue risk taken by the victims themselves. People often cross the tracks at unauthorized locations or immediately after a train passes, failing to check that no other trains are approaching on adjacent tracks.
Increasingly, accidents are caused by people being distracted by their smartphones, talking on the phone, and listening to music through headphones while crossing the tracks. Additionally, individuals under the influence of alcohol often end up on the tracks, and there are cases where intoxicated people simply fall asleep on the rails.
Railway workers urge everyone to stay as alert as possible and remind that a train driver, even when applying emergency brakes, cannot instantly stop the train as the braking distance averages 400 to 500 meters.
