US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on August 15 at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska.
This has been reported by CNN citing reliable sources.
As noted by the network, US officials faced challenges in finding a location for the summit due to the tourist season in Alaska and high security requirements.
“The organizers concluded that Anchorage was the only suitable city for the meeting, as the Elmendorf-Richardson military base met the security criteria for this significant event. The White House had hoped to avoid hosting the Russian leader and his entourage on an American military base, but this turned out to be the only option,” CNN reported citing two White House officials.
It is mentioned that Russia rejected European locations due to an International Criminal Court warrant for Putin's arrest. Therefore, alternatives such as the UAE, Hungary, and the USA were considered, and ultimately the Kremlin agreed to the American territory.
As reported by Ukrinform, Donald Trump intends to meet with Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska.
The initiative for the meeting between the US and Russian presidents arose from the Russian side during a meeting with special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow.
Demonstrations are planned in downtown Anchorage on the eve and day of the Trump-Putin summit.
President Trump and Vice President Jay D. Vance will participate in a virtual meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of several European countries on August 13.
