In Dresden, around 17,000 individuals were evacuated from the area surrounding the Carol Bridge after a British WWII-era bomb was discovered.
This was reported by the police according to dpa news agency.
The bomb was found during demolition work on the bridge on Tuesday, August 5.
Organizers canceled the planned events for the "Cinema Nights on the Elbe" for that Tuesday evening due to safety concerns.
The police stated that trams were rerouted, and museums were closed. Currently, the area is being checked to ensure that no one is in the danger zone.
On Wednesday morning, August 6, significant traffic disruptions occurred during the morning commute in the eastern German city, as most administrative offices and the state chancellery are located within the evacuation zone.
Stores and kindergartens are also situated within the risk area.
According to the police, a special bus is transporting residents to a shelter at the Dresden exhibition center, which opened at 6:00 AM to accommodate locals.
