The Kyiv Metro has launched a public discussion on a project concerning potential changes to dog transport rules within the subway.

This initiative was developed in response to citizens' inquiries and a relevant petition, as reported by the Kyiv Metro.

If Kyiv residents participate in the survey through the "Kyiv Digital" app and support the project, the new transport rules for both small and large dogs could include:

  • small dogs must be transported in a bag with a waterproof or absorbent bottom – the animal should remain inside;
  • large dogs must wear muzzles and be on a short leash;
  • passengers with pets will be allowed in the first and last cars during off-peak hours;
  • owners of dogs must adhere to sanitary norms and safety regulations while transporting their animals in the metro.

"If Kyiv residents support the survey, the project will be submitted for a vote to the Kyiv City Council. Following a positive decision by the deputies, a six-month trial period for the new rules will commence. Subsequently, specialists will finalize the provisions," emphasized the animal rights organization UAnimals.

According to experts from the Kyiv Metro, the trial period is crucial, as they will analyze how the new rules affect the safety and comfort of all passengers. If needed, the regulations will be refined.
