The Security Service of Ukraine has successfully conducted an operation that resulted in the neutralization of Russian intelligence agents responsible for the assassination of an SBU colonel in the capital.

The operation aimed at apprehending the assassins was personally overseen by SBU head, Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk.

«The sabotage group sent by the FSB was pre-arranged to operate in Ukraine and assassinated our colleague, Colonel Ivan Voronych, three days ago. Thanks to our covert search efforts, we managed to locate their hideout. During the arrest, the criminals resisted, which led to their elimination. I want to emphasize that the only future for the enemy on our territory is death!», noted Vasyl Maliuk.

The SBU chief also expressed gratitude to the National Police for their professionalism and assistance.

He highlighted that effective counteraction against Russian intelligence services is a key focus for the SBU, which prevents 85% of crimes planned by the enemy.

According to the investigation, the assassination was carried out by a male and female duo who were ordered to surveil the SBU officer. Following the murder, they attempted to go underground but were located in the Kyiv region.

It is worth recalling that on July 10, agents of Russian intelligence services killed an SBU officer in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, leading to the opening of a criminal case.
