Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held discussions with Polish President Andrzej Duda regarding support for strengthening Ukraine's air defense system and initiatives to enhance sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Shmyhal shared updates via his Telegram channel, expressing gratitude to Duda for his ongoing support for Ukraine during wartime.
«It is a pleasure to welcome President Duda to Kyiv on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Constitution. I expressed my thanks for his contributions to supporting our country in defense, humanitarian, and economic matters amid Russian aggression», - noted Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister also congratulated Duda on receiving the Order of Freedom from the President of Ukraine, highlighting the significance of this award.
«This is a well-deserved recognition for his contributions to Ukraine's resilience. We appreciate his consistent stance on our European integration aspirations», - added Shmyhal.
President Duda assured that he would continue to promote the development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland, as Shmyhal reminded.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister informed Duda about the daily Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
«Russia is intensifying its attacks, using ballistic and cruise missiles. Therefore, strengthening our air defense remains our top priority. We hope for Poland's involvement in this effort», - emphasized the Prime Minister.
They also discussed the situation at the front.
«We expect continued support from Europe, particularly through initiatives like SAFE and the ReArm Europe plan — key EU security and defense initiatives. We are determined to effectively utilize these tools to enhance our defense production», - added the Prime Minister.
They also addressed the issue of sanctions against Russia.
«We highlighted the importance of implementing the 18th package of sanctions. These need to be stronger and more impactful to increase pressure on the aggressor and compel Russia to negotiate for a just peace», - noted the Prime Minister.
They specifically discussed frozen Russian assets.
«We are grateful for the launch of the ERA program, which aids our economy. However, it is not enough. We need to establish a clear political and legal mechanism for the full confiscation of these assets, directing them towards rebuilding Ukraine and enhancing our and European security», - concluded the Prime Minister.
He expressed gratitude to Poland and its people for their unwavering solidarity and assistance during Ukraine's most challenging times. «Together we are stronger», - emphasized Shmyhal.
