This veteran drone is part of the fleet of maritime drones utilized by the SBU, having successfully targeted 11 Russian vessels and detonated the Crimean Bridge during the ongoing conflict.
The Security Service of Ukraine officially donated one of its iconic drones, known as Sea Baby, to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II.
This exhibit belongs to the class of "reusable" drones that return to base after completing their missions.
According to the SBU, this drone has successfully completed several missions, covering over 4,000 kilometers across the Black Sea. Notably, the Sea Baby engaged in a "naval battle" with Russian aviation in December 2024.
The drone sustained significant damage but managed to fulfill its combat tasks and returned to base. Currently, its damages prevent further operational use, thus it has been secured and transferred to the museum.
As stated by Ivan Lukashevich, a brigadier general in military counterintelligence at the SBU, the Sea Baby drone is a unique development that outperforms any global counterparts in reliability and versatility.
"Marine drones, developed by our specialists, have evolved since 2022 from experimental kamikaze models to multi-purpose platforms that can cover thousands of kilometers and carry combat loads exceeding 1000 kg," emphasized Ivan Lukashevich. "Sea Babies perform various tasks in the Black Sea, from remote mining to attacks on military targets and illegally constructed structures in Crimea."
General-Lieutenant Vasyl Malyuk, head of the SBU, emphasized that thanks to maritime drones, the dominance of Russia in the Black Sea has been eliminated.
"It is a great honor for us to host the legendary SBU drone Sea Baby in our museum. This invention forced Russia to hide most of its military vessels in Novorossiysk bay and allowed Ukraine to unblock the 'grain corridor'," said Yuriy Savchuk, director of the Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. "I am confident this exhibit will attract great interest from visitors, as everyone will want to touch a piece of the modern history created by true heroes."
With the help of maritime drones, the SBU has successfully detonated the Crimean Bridge and struck 11 Russian warships. The service continually enhances its developments, and the latest Sea Babies are equipped with heavy-caliber machine guns with ballistic programs for automatic targeting and acquisition of targets, enabling them to engage in combat with Russian aviation.
It is worth noting that at the end of May, the War Museum in Kyiv acquired unique artifacts from the Russo-Ukrainian war. Over 200 artifacts, obtained by Ukrainian forces in fierce battles, will serve as evidence of Russian aggression and symbolize the valor of our defenders.
