In Sumy, there are plans to construct four new "underground schools," with a total of eleven planned for the region.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during his working visit to the Sumy region.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers' press service, Shmyhal visited a school where an underground shelter is being built.

"This protective facility will accommodate up to 500 individuals, allowing children to learn safely in person. Approximately 117 million UAH has been allocated from state and local budgets for this project," Shmyhal stated, adding that the construction is expected to be completed before the start of the next academic year.

He also mentioned that classes are currently being held in a mixed format.
