A 63-year-old woman in the Kyiv region is facing trial for the murder of her newborn grandson. She could face up to 15 years in prison.

This information was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv region and the regional prosecutor's office.

Authorities have established that in November 2024, the grandmother was home with the infant, who was only a week old.

“While alone with the baby, she inflicted injuries to the child's head and body using a wooden chair. Afterward, she moved the boy to the bedroom and placed him in the crib, where he died from his injuries,” the prosecutor's office stated.

According to the investigation, the woman was under the influence of alcohol.

Prosecutors have submitted an indictment against the grandmother for the intentional murder of a minor child committed with particular cruelty (items 2, 4 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She faces 15 years of imprisonment.

The accused is currently being held in custody without the right to bail.

Earlier, we reported that in Odesa, a 27-year-old man is being tried for systematically beating his two-year-old son and two-month-old daughter. The children were found to have various degrees of bodily injuries.
