Attack on Journalist in Kyiv

On April 16, an incident occurred in the Ukrainian capital where an unknown individual inflicted a knife wound on renowned journalist and producer Yuriy Makara.

This information was reported by Ukrinform, citing Mykola Chernotytskyi, the chairman of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.

Details of the attack on Yuriy Makara

According to law enforcement, the attack took place late in the evening on April 16.

The journalist was urgently hospitalized in serious condition; however, his life is currently not in danger.

The National Police of Kyiv announced the opening of a criminal case in connection with this incident in the Solomianskyi district of the capital.

The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional serious bodily harm.

Preliminary reports indicate that the assailant approached the victim near a residential complex, unexpectedly stabbed him, and fled the scene.

The victim is a 69-year-old Kyiv resident who works for one of the national media organizations. A forensic team is currently at the scene.

The police have seized the weapon and other physical evidence. Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrator.
