Germany is set to allocate €60 million to enhance Ukraine's energy capabilities. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with German Energy Minister Katharina Reiche to discuss preparations for the winter season and improving energy resilience. This was reported by the Ukrainian Prime Minister via Telegram.

“These funds will expedite the delivery of generators and energy equipment,” Svyrydenko stated.

During the meeting, they also discussed Ukraine's winter preparations and strengthening energy resilience, agreeing to establish a joint working group on energy and expand industrial cooperation.

“In December, a Ukrainian-German business forum will take place in Berlin, which could serve as a platform for new partnerships between our companies. We proposed to Germany to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to support investors – similar to models already implemented by Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland. I also thanked Germany for its active stance on the use of Russian assets,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Additionally, Reiche promised Ukraine an extra €30 million for the energy sector. According to Tagesspiegel, this amount could be increased. During her visit to Kyiv, Reiche told reporters that in early October, about 60% of Ukraine's gas supply had been destroyed by Russian attacks.

“Russia's goal is clearly to exhaust Ukraine. We will help restore the energy infrastructure,” she said.

As reported, Reiche arrived in Kyiv on October 24 to assess Ukraine's needs for rebuilding its energy infrastructure following massive Russian attacks that severely damaged the electrical grid. Besides energy infrastructure restoration, Reiche intends to focus on expanding German-Ukrainian defense cooperation.

To date, Germany has already allocated a third of the total €390 million for the Energy Assistance Fund for Ukraine.

Recall that on October 13, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced that the EU is working on providing an additional €100 million in aid to Ukraine for the heating season. On October 24, Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that Ukraine is discussing additional assistance for the purchase of gas and energy equipment with its partners. Ukraine will receive a third package – about $150 million – from Norway for gas purchases for the winter.
