As of May 11, the reserves of natural gas in Ukraine's underground storage facilities amounted to 6.02 billion cubic meters, representing 19.4% capacity.
This data is provided by ExPro Daily Gas.
Compared to last year, the storage facilities hold 31.7% or 2.79 billion cubic meters less gas. This is the lowest level recorded on this date in at least 11 years.
It is reported that Ukraine continues to inject gas into its underground storage, although the injection volumes have decreased to 26 million cubic meters as of May 11.
However, the injection volumes in May 2025 are higher than in May of the previous year. Overall, over 350 million cubic meters of natural gas have been injected into storage since the beginning of the month, which is 33% more than the same period last year.
Since the start of this year's injection season (April 17), a total of 610 million cubic meters of natural gas have been injected into Ukraine's underground storage, including 258 million cubic meters in April.
According to ExPro's estimates, by the end of May 2025, gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storage could reach nearly 6.6 billion cubic meters, provided there is stable natural gas import averaging around 14 million cubic meters per day in recent days.
Additionally, Ukraine is gradually resuming its natural gas production, which had been disrupted by extensive Russian shelling in February-March.
Reminder:
Since the beginning of the year and as of May 5, natural gas imports to Ukraine amounted to 1.12 billion cubic meters. This figure has increased nearly tenfold compared to the same period last year.
"UkrGazVydobuvannya" lost 50% of its gas production due to Russian attacks in February, with more than half of the losses recovered.
Due to Russian attacks on gas infrastructure and subsequent production cuts, Ukraine is expected to significantly increase its gas imports in 2025.
