Today, on Defenders Day of Ukraine, a memorial wall was unveiled in the first academic building of the Boris Grinchenko Kyiv University, dedicated to students, alumni, and faculty who lost their lives in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The ceremony was attended by faculty, students, military personnel, and families of the fallen heroes. The memorial honors the memory of 18 Grinchenko members who died defending Ukraine. Currently, 43 students and graduates continue to serve on the front lines, along with 19 faculty members.
The opening began with a moment of silence to honor the fallen heroes. Those present bowed their heads in respect for the sacrifice made by those who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom and independence.
«This is not just a memorial wall; it marks the beginning of a memorial dedicated to the Russo-Ukrainian war. The heroism of Grinchenko members must be preserved for future generations of the university, who will learn and teach in a free country. Soon, flags of the units where our students and faculty serve will be displayed here. We are proud of them and grateful for their bravery», said Acting Rector Oleksandr Turuntsev.
During the presentation of the photo exhibition «WAR. OBJECTIVELY», works by faculty and students were showcased. The photographs, taken both on the front lines and in the rear, depict the war through the eyes of those who have experienced it firsthand.
