Ukraine's efforts to preserve UNESCO heritage during the war
In January, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine appealed to UNESCO for the establishment of a mechanism to protect historical buildings from destruction.
The ministry aims to “develop a mechanism for preserving and protecting the architectural integrity of streets in the historical center, regardless of the status or ownership of the buildings”.
On December 12, UNESCO took under its protection Babyn Yar and the Odesa Literary Museum, including them in the list of world heritage sites requiring special protection.
On December 4, the first international element from Ukraine was included in the intangible cultural heritage of humanity together with Estonia - “Pysanka: Ukrainian Tradition and Art of Egg Decoration”.
