Call to Action: Curbing Russian Propaganda in Australia

The Union of Ukrainian Organizations of Australia (UUOA) invites Ukrainians to join the campaign to cancel the screening of the propaganda film “Russians at War” at the “Antenna” documentary festival in Sydney by February 10.

“The Ukrainian community has united its efforts to combat Russian propaganda in Australia!”, the campaigners stated.

UUOA has been actively cooperating with festival organizers, reaching out to Australian Minister of Culture Tony Burke and key sponsors while ensuring media coverage of the situation. Nearly 1,000 people participated in the letter-writing campaign within the first 48 hours.

“But we need more support! If you oppose the screening of pro-Russian propaganda in Australia, write to the organizers, sponsors, and partners urging them to cancel the film “Russians at War”, the UUOA urged.

A form for sending a letter is available hereLetters should be sent by February 10.

“Let us defend against disinformation, support Ukrainians, and uphold the values of Australia!”, the organization emphasized.

It is important to note that the film “Russians at War” features stories of Russian occupiers and only snippets of real battles. Director Trofimova claims she created an “anti-war” film intending to showcase “ordinary people”. She argues that her work aims to counter the perception that all Russian military personnel are criminals.

Previously, the Zurich Film Festival canceled public screenings of this film. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress ran a campaign against the film's demonstration. While the community managed to halt screenings temporarily, the Toronto International Film Festival ignored the calls on September 17.

However, in October, thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian community, screenings of the film were successfully canceled in Greece.
