A new radio version of the theatrical performance "Zorba the Greek" premiered on Radio Culture, produced by the National Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko. The performance was featured in the program "Show Without Intermission".
This play is based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, telling the story of Alexis Zorba — a charismatic traveler, philosopher, and musician whose life is filled with adventures and profound thoughts. It is now available in a radio format.
Svitlana Hudzi-Voytenko, the author of the radio version, expressed her belief that Zorba embodies the spirit of modern Ukrainians who are undeterred by losses and obstacles. She referred to the character's words: "I live as if I could die at any moment":
"Today, these words guide us, they are our support and aspiration to endure. The energy and zest for life of the vibrant Zorba will thrive in the radio dimension and surely inspire us! This creative dream, which lasted for over a decade, has come true during our Ukrainian struggles".
The performance was directed by Vitaliy Malakhov, a People's Artist of Ukraine and Shevchenko Prize laureate. The music was composed by Ivan Nebesny.
The main roles were played by Natalia Sumska, Anatoliy Khostikoyev, and Denys Martynov.
"I truly love our performance for its endless interesting text, filled with witty phrases and irony, which can be quoted, and I advise all admirers of Zorba's adventures to do so," commented Natalia Sumska.
