Japan Grants Ukraine Support for Infrastructure Restoration

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a deal with Japan to secure a grant of approximately 58 million dollars.

This grant will be utilized for the restoration of infrastructure and other facilities impacted by the war, as stated by Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

“Today, we are making a significant decision for our recovery. We are approving a project agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Japan to attract a grant amounting to 8.8 billion Japanese yen, or about 58 million dollars,” he noted.

Shmyhal explained that these funds are provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to finance reconstruction projects.

He expressed gratitude to Japanese partners for their unwavering support of Ukraine.

Details of Japan's Support for Ukraine

On January 21, Ukraine and Japan established a platform for implementing recovery technologies for Ukrainian infrastructure.

On January 10, the Japanese government imposed additional sanctions against several individuals and entities in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Foreign partners of the Russian Federation were included in the sanctions.

In October 2024, the Japanese government decided to provide Ukraine with over 3 billion dollars as part of G7 financial support.

Additionally, Japan's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani announced additional supplies of vehicles from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to Ukraine at a NATO defense ministers' meeting.
