Germany has become the leading EU country for Ukrainian refugees, according to data from Eurostat, as reported by inPoland.

Ukrainian Refugees: Germany Surpasses Poland

As of the end of 2024, over 1.14 million Ukrainians residing in Germany have received temporary protection. This is 150,000 more than in Poland, which previously held the top position for accepting Ukrainian refugees.

In 2022, Poland hosted more than 1.3 million Ukrainian refugees, but their numbers have now decreased to 983,000.

Czech Republic ranks third with 379,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Factors driving the migration of Ukrainians from Poland to Germany include higher wages, better social benefits, and more comprehensive healthcare services.

Moreover, educational reforms and stricter access to social programs in Poland have also influenced this migration trend.

Eurostat notes a trend of Ukrainian refugees moving from Central and Eastern European countries to the Western and Southern parts of the continent.

Potential Establishment of "Return Centers for Ukrainians" in Europe

"Return Centers for Ukrainians" may be established in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland.

These institutions are expected to assist Ukrainian migrants in returning to their homeland while serving as cultural hubs.

The New York Times reported that the Trump administration suspended immigration programs, which also affects Ukrainians.

In Poland, there are proposals to limit child benefit payments of 800+ zlotys for Ukrainians, providing them only to those who work and pay taxes.
