Early Wednesday morning, the Polish Air Force, along with allied forces, deployed fighter jets to secure the country's airspace after Russia conducted airstrikes in western Ukraine near the Polish border, according to Reuters.
"Additional pairs of quick-response fighters and early warning aircraft were launched, while ground-based air defense and radar surveillance systems were placed on high alert," stated the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
Since the previous night, nearly all of Ukraine has been under an air alert following warnings from the Ukrainian Air Force regarding potential Russian missile strikes and drone attacks.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces mentioned on social media that the measures taken were preventive and aimed at securing airspace and protecting citizens, particularly in areas close to the threat zone.
They emphasized that the situation is under control and that subordinate forces and resources remain fully ready for immediate response.
Additionally, the Polish air traffic agency announced that airports in Rzeszów and Lublin were temporarily closed to facilitate military aviation operations.
