The German company Helsing is ramping up production of the HX-2 combat drone, supplying units to Ukraine. The success in testing and plans for mass production make this model a notable contender in the tactical UAV market, as reported by Defense Express.
Ukraine has placed two orders totaling 10,000 HX-2 units, and Helsing aims to reach a production rate of 2,500 drones per month.
This volume indicates that the project is moving into mass production and quickly integrating into frontline logistics.
During comparative tests in Germany, the HX-2 was the only drone among three manufacturers that consistently hit its targets – achieving 17 successful launches in a row.
Over the past two years, the company has conducted weekly flights with 30 units, refining the system and design, which analysts believe explains the high success rate.
The HX-2 can strike targets at distances of up to 100 km, reaches speeds of up to 220 km/h, weighs about 12 kg, and its warheads can weigh up to 4 kg.
The drone is equipped with four engines and autonomous navigation systems, including the ability to operate without GNSS through map and image matching. The operator confirms target hits before an attack.
The co-founder of Helsing noted that within the current platform, a priority direction will be the development of software and artificial intelligence – enhancing the recognition of vulnerable points, adapting to countermeasures, and accelerating system calibration due to a large fleet of flight tests.
