Syrian intelligence services have thwarted two assassination attempts on President Ahmad al-Sharaa. According to Reuters, these incidents occurred over the past few months.
Sources indicate that the threats against President Sharaa's life underscore the serious risks he faces while trying to stabilize a nation ravaged by 14 years of civil war.
One of the plots, linked to the «Islamic State», was connected to a public event featuring the president. Other details were not disclosed due to the sensitive nature of the issue.
The Syrian Ministry of Information also declined to comment on the assassination attempts, noting that over the past 10 months, intelligence services have disrupted several ISIS attacks, including at religious sites. “Syria is committed to protecting its people and continues to fight against terrorism in all its forms,” the ministry stated.
It is worth noting that on November 10, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the White House, marking the first historic visit by a Syrian head of state to Washington since the country gained independence in 1946.
