A cargo plane, the Boeing 747, overshot the runway at Hong Kong International Airport and partially ended up in the sea. This was reported by Sky News.
The accident occurred around 03:50 local time on Monday. Footage shows the aircraft partially submerged in the water near the airport.
During landing, the plane collided with a vehicle that had two security personnel on board. They tragically lost their lives.
The vehicle was patrolling the northern runway at the time of the incident.
The northern runway, the busiest for cargo operations globally, has been closed, while the southern and central runways remain operational.
The airport confirmed that four crew members aboard the plane survived.
Emirates Airlines stated that flight EK9788 sustained damage during landing in Hong Kong and that the aircraft was a Boeing 747 leased from ACT Airlines.
ACT Airlines is a Turkish carrier providing additional cargo capacity to major airlines.
Flight tracking service FlightRadar24 noted that the aircraft involved in the accident is 32 years old and previously served as a passenger plane before being converted to cargo.
