On Wednesday, fresh clashes erupted along the volatile border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of over a dozen civilians and military personnel, according to Reuters.
Reports from the Afghan Taliban indicate that during morning assaults by Pakistani forces in the Spin Boldak area, more than ten civilians were killed, with around 100 others injured.
In contrast, the Pakistani side reported four injured civilians in the Chaman region, which borders Spin Boldak. This escalation has triggered extensive fighting between troops and militants. In the Pakistani border area of Orakzai, six soldiers were reported killed, with another six injured.
According to Reuters, nine militants also lost their lives in the clashes.
These recent confrontations are among the fiercest between the neighboring countries since the Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021. The situation along the border remains tense, with international observers expressing concern over the rising violence and the risk of further escalation of the conflict.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Taliban foreign ministry, Zakiullah Jalal, stated that the group would not allow the US to regain control of a key airbase in Afghanistan.
