On Tuesday morning, the Parisian police initiated an investigation after pig heads were discovered near several mosques in the suburbs and within the city itself. Some of these heads bore the inscription ‘Macron’.
This information was shared by Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez on his social media account.
“Early this morning, pig heads were found in front of several mosques. An investigation has been launched immediately,” Nuñez stated, adding that every effort is being made to locate the perpetrators of these “disgusting acts”.
The Grand Mosque of Paris expressed its concern regarding this new episode of anti-Muslim hatred and condemned the Islamophobic acts aimed at sowing division within the national community. (As is known, pigs are considered ‘unclean animals’ in Islam).
According to Le Parisien, pig heads were found on Marais street in the 20th arrondissement, in front of a mosque in the 15th arrondissement, and in a suitcase in the 18th arrondissement. Two more were discovered in the suburbs - near the entrance to a mosque in Montrouge and in Montreuil.
According to a source close to the investigation, a similar act occurred in Montreuil at 5:30 AM. Worshippers found a pig head with the inscription ‘Macron’ written in large letters.
Ben Ali, a lawyer for the mosque, reported that the pig head was thrown by a man wearing a surgical mask and a beret. He suggested that the action was premeditated, considering the considerable distance between the mosques involved.
