Strong Earthquake Strikes Evia Island

On the night of Tuesday, September 9, a significant earthquake occurred near the second largest Greek island, Evia, and was felt in the capital, Athens.

This was reported by Ekathimerini.

At 00:27 local time, a quake measuring 5.2 struck the southwestern part of Evia, shaking the capital Athens, located to the southwest of the epicenter.

According to the Athens Institute of Geodynamics, the earthquake was recorded about five kilometers northwest of the town of Nea Stira, at a depth of only 13.6 kilometers.

Stergios Tsirkas, the mayor of Marathon, situated on the southern shore of Evia Gulf from Nea Stira, stated that the earthquake was "very intense," but there are currently no reports of any destruction.

The mayor of Karistos, located to the south of Evia, also mentioned that his office had not received any reports of damages.
