On the eve of the G7 summit in Canada, a lengthy informal conversation took place among several group leaders.

According to Italian media, including Sky TG24, crucial topics were discussed during this meeting.

Participants included Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The meeting, held at the resort where the summit is taking place, began with greetings and jokes, and, according to media reports, served as a platform for preliminary discussions on the G7 agenda.

In recent hours, Italian sources emphasized the importance of aligning positions with European partners regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran for further coordination with U.S. President Donald Trump.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the need for increased pressure on Russia to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine, urging G7 countries to implement new sanctions.

Due to the stalemate in diplomatic efforts, the European Union plans to introduce new sanctions against Russia, but so far has failed to convince Trump to take necessary actions. Trump stated that he does not want sanctions to hinder the peace process.

As reported, on June 10, the European Commission announced the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
