US Demands Recognition of Ukraine's Defense Rights

As part of their new peace initiative, the United States will demand that Russia acknowledge Ukraine's rights to its own armed forces and defense industry, as well as return the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to Kyiv.

Source: Bloomberg, referring to informed sources, reports "European Truth".

According to sources, US special envoy Steve Witkoff will raise this issue in discussions with Vladimir Putin.

Additionally, the US wants Russia to return control of the Zaporizhia NPP to Ukraine.

Under the Trump administration's plan, the plant is expected to come under American control to supply electricity to cities both under Ukrainian and Russian occupation.

The US also aims to ensure Ukraine's access to the Dnipro River and regain control over territories in the Kharkiv region occupied by Russia.

Representatives from the National Security Council, the State Department, and Witkoff have not responded to requests for comments.

Previously, media reported that the Trump administration delivered a one-page document in Paris last week, presented as a "final proposal" for peace settlement, which includes the US's readiness to recognize Russian control over Crimea and reduce sanctions against Moscow.

President Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not recognize Russian occupation of Crimea, which is internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory.

The Financial Times notes that some European officials are concerned that disagreements over the unilateral "peace deal" proposed by the Trump administration, which includes US recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, could undermine transatlantic security and even disrupt the NATO summit at the end of June.
