During the night and morning, Russia unleashed over 650 drones, primarily of the Shahed type, along with several dozen missiles, targeting at least 13 regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky shared this update on Facebook.
“A massive Russian offensive is ongoing, mainly directed at our energy sector and civilian infrastructure. More than 650 drones have been deployed, and over thirty missiles have been launched,” Zelensky noted.
Currently, an air alert is in effect across most of Ukraine, with all necessary services engaged in addressing the aftermath.
“Regrettably, there are casualties. A woman was killed in Kyiv region due to a drone strike, and a person was reported dead in Khmelnytskyi. In Zhytomyr region, a four-year-old child lost their life as a result of a drone hitting a residential building. My condolences go to the families,” said Zelensky.
“A significant number of drones and missiles have been intercepted. Detailed information from the Air Force will be provided later as reports come in. Unfortunately, there were also hits. Repair teams and energy workers are already working to restore normal life,” emphasized the President.
According to him, this Russian strike clearly signals their priorities.
“An attack right before Christmas, when people want to be home with their families, illustrates that Putin cannot accept the need to stop the killings. This indicates that the world is not putting enough pressure on Russia,” Zelensky stressed.
He urged the world to react.
“We need to continue pressing Russia towards peace and guaranteed security. We should not forget that every day, both weekdays and holidays, Ukraine is defending lives. Air defense for Ukraine, funding for weapon purchases, and energy equipment supplies—these processes do not take breaks. We must be committed to protecting lives to finally achieve peace. Thank you to everyone who is helping Ukraine! Thanks to every leader and politician who today will not remain silent and condemn Russia for its actions,” Zelensky concluded.
Russia has launched a mass attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, leading to emergency power outages in several regions.
