On the night of August 28, Ukrainian rail workers faced another strike as Russian forces targeted Ukrzaliznytsia's train park, resulting in a fire and damage to several train units.
This was reported by the management of Ukrzaliznytsia via social media.
Ukrzaliznytsia stated: "Last night, our colleagues experienced a targeted assault on civilian trains. The high-speed Intercity+ trains were among those hit. Thanks to the prompt action of depot workers, the fire was quickly extinguished. One train suffered significant damage."
According to representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia, employees were in safe shelters, and therefore there were no casualties.
"We are doing everything possible to ensure that the maximum number of trains are operational. No services will be canceled: we are deploying substitute rolling stock. We will inform about any delays, as the restoration of damaged infrastructure is ongoing," they added.
They also reminded that due to damage at the Kozjatyn railway junction, several trains are currently taking altered routes.
