Accountability for War Crimes: New Insights on the Perpetrator

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has released information regarding a serviceman linked to the missile strike on the medical facility “Okhmatdyt” in Kyiv.

Today, on the anniversary of this tragedy, Ukrainian intelligence provides data on an individual responsible for organizing this war crime.

Major Denis Shainov, a member of the Russian Armed Forces and the head of the special engineering service of the 121st Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, was directly involved in the attack on the hospital, where 627 children were receiving treatment at the time of the strike.

He was responsible for preparing the air-launched cruise missiles X-101 for use by strategic aviation.

Denis Shainov was born on January 30, 1978, in Saratov. His passport: series 6302 No. 906672, issued on March 15, 2002, by the Internal Affairs Department.

He graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Engineering Command School and was involved in military operations in Syria in 2018.
He has been awarded medals for «Military Valor» II class (2000), «Excellence in Military Service» I class (2015), and «Participant of the Military Operation in Syria» (2019).

Major Shainov is married with two children. His family resides in Saratov at: Batavina St., bldg. 12, apt. 266.
