Mine Clearance Progress in Ukraine: Key Achievements

Since the onset of the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, bomb disposal units have neutralized 586,456 units of explosive devices and 2,966 kg of explosives, including 4,206 aerial bombs, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

As of now, the agency reports that more than 181,408 hectares of territory have been surveyed.

The bomb disposal teams have been most active in the following regions: Kharkiv – 44,859, Kherson – 22,437, Donetsk – 17,370, Kyiv – 13,742, Mykolaiv – 11,223, Chernihiv – 7,622, Sumy – 6,027.

How many times the sappers were called in the last day – what is known

During the past day, SES bomb disposal units were called out 183 times, detecting, retrieving, and neutralizing 333 explosive devices, while surveying an area of 116.6 hectares.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that compared to last year, the area designated as safe due to mine clearance has increased by nearly 50%.

In May, Ukrainian sappers cleared almost 8,000 hectares of land.

The Ministry of Defense sappers cleared 7,847 hectares of liberated territories from explosive devices in May.

In May, 7,660.21 hectares of agricultural land, 21.27 km of roads, 9.44 km of power lines, 40.24 km of railway tracks, and 5.94 km of pipelines were cleared.

Additionally, 0.88 hectares of residential areas were cleared of explosive devices.

Throughout 2024, over 35,000 square kilometers have been cleared in Ukraine, enabling their safe use for economic activities.

This year, Ukraine will receive 26 GCS demining machines as part of a project funded by international partners, including the governments of Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the USA, the UK, Lithuania, and the United24 platform.
