Successful Operation: Ukrainian Security Service Takes Down Russian Aircraft

NATO considers the operation by the Ukrainian Security Service against Russian aircraft to be highly successful.

A senior NATO official stated that, according to the Alliance, this was the "most successful operation".

He emphasized that he is using calculations made by the Alliance rather than the Ukrainian side, but the assessments of the outcomes generally align with Ukrainian evaluations.

"We see that at least 40 aircraft were damaged. Between 10 and 13 aircraft were completely destroyed," he stated.

Among the damaged Russian planes, NATO identified 15 strategic bombers Tu-95, 20 Tu-22 aircraft, and at least one A-50 radar plane, of which the Russian army has only a few.

According to NATO estimates, the attack destroyed 34% of Russia's existing missile carriers.

"This has a critical impact on Russian capabilities," the official stressed.

These estimates remain unaffected by the fact that the Alliance is aware that some of the damaged and destroyed aircraft may have been used as "parts donors" and were not performing combat missions; NATO does not make this distinction, the official explained.

"We cannot confirm that all of them were fully operational… This does not eliminate Russia's ability to conduct air strikes, but it certainly reduces their capability to carry out missile strikes, including those known to occur early in the morning," he stated, adding that it is also important to highlight the impact this operation has demonstrated regarding Ukraine's ability to inflict damage on Russia's military capabilities anywhere in their territory.
