The Cost of War: Children in Ukraine

As a result of the armed conflict unfolding in Ukraine, 630 children have died, with over 1960 sustaining various injuries.

This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Nearly 2600 children affected by the war in Ukraine

“It is reported that over 2590 children have been affected by the aggression of Russia in Ukraine. As of May 26, 2025, according to juvenile prosecutors, 630 children have died and more than 1960 have sustained injuries of varying severity,” - stated in the official data.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the highest number of affected children (including the deceased and injured) is in the following regions:

  • Donetsk – 645
  • Kharkiv – 492
  • Kherson – 208
  • Dnipropetrovsk – 242
  • Kyiv – 146
  • Zaporizhzhia – 181
  • Mykolaiv – 119
  • Sumy – 139

Several tragic incidents were also reported on May 25:

  • Due to a strike on the city of Korostyshiv in the Zhytomyr region, a 12-year-old girl and two boys aged 8 and 17 were killed. Another 14-year-old boy was injured.
  • In Kharkiv, a 14-year-old boy was injured as a result of an attack.
  • In the Kyiv region, eight children were injured due to Russian strikes: girls aged 10, 13, and 17, and boys aged 8, 10, 11, and 13.
  • On the same day, May 25, a 17-year-old boy was injured in Mykolaiv due to a strike.

Juvenile prosecutors continue to document war crimes committed by Russian occupiers against Ukrainian children.
