During a meeting in Rome on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen talked about the steps Ukraine is taking towards joining the European Union.

Source: von der Leyen shared insights on social media following her meeting with Zelensky, as reported by "European Truth".

Direct quote: "You can count on our support at the negotiation table to achieve a fair and lasting peace...

Today we also discussed the measures Ukraine is taking to earn its place in our family of nations".

Background: Back in January, the EU was ready to open the first cluster in accession talks with Ukraine, but Hungary blocked this decision.

Budapest has promised to prevent further cluster openings for Ukraine until "consultations" with the population regarding this issue are completed, during which Prime Minister Viktor Orban publicly voted against Ukraine's EU membership.
