The Culture and Tourism Committee of the Kyiv City Council has approved the report from the Department of Culture regarding the implementation of the program «Cultural Life of the Capital: 2022–2024» for the year 2024, focusing on the results of the public libraries.

City council member Victoria Mukha pointed out that libraries continue to be an essential part of the city's cultural landscape, adapting to new challenges and community needs.

«Today, libraries are not just about books; they provide spaces for education, communication, and development. They are evolving with society and increasingly becoming modern and open public spaces. Last year, the library collection grew by over 75,000 new copies, and visits exceeded 570,000», emphasized Victoria Mukha.

The council member noted that the library spaces are expanding — from reading rooms to multimedia and educational hubs.

«In 2024, 17,460 events were held in Kyiv's libraries, attracting over 410,000 participants. Additionally, more than 80 courses and clubs for learning the Ukrainian language operated in 68 libraries. This reflects the demand for new formats and confirms that libraries are becoming true centers of community interaction,» she added.
