The Security Service of Ukraine reported the arrest of another Russian agent in the Kyiv region. The suspect was hiding in the area after adjusting enemy fire in Donetsk. It turned out that he is a 32-year-old miner from the temporarily occupied Novhorodivka, recruited by Russian intelligence services.
He was drawn into the network via the banned social media platform «Odnoklassniki», where he was approached by a liaison from the Russian military intelligence, who offered him collaboration in exchange for virtual relationships.
Upon agreeing, the suspect began tracking and relaying the locations of defense forces in the city and its outskirts to the occupiers.
The intelligence gathered was used by the Russians to plan airstrikes aimed at advancing in the Pokrovsk direction.
After the capture of Novhorodivka, the agent moved to the capital region, hoping to lay low before resuming his espionage activities for Russia.
SBU operatives located him and arrested him in a rented apartment.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the occupiers was seized.
Currently, investigators have notified the agent of suspicion under Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in a state of war).
The suspect is in custody without bail, facing a lifetime sentence with asset confiscation.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office.
