Military leaders from the "Coalition of the Willing" convened in Paris to discuss security measures for Ukraine and their practical implementation.
This was announced by the Chief of the French General Staff, General Fabien Mandon, on social media.
He mentioned that in the French capital, he met with the Chief of the British General Staff, General Rich Knighton, the Chief of the Ukrainian General Staff, General Andriy Hnatov, as well as the Commander of U.S. Armed Forces in Europe, General Alexis Grynkewich.
"Security guarantees for Ukraine and the conditions for their implementation were at the core of discussions during the video conference with the coalition's military leaders," noted Mandon.
He added that the current military efforts ongoing for several months within the coalition and in cooperation with the United States aim to support political initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in Europe.
Summit in Paris
It was previously reported that Ukraine's allies would gather in Paris on January 6 to coordinate their contributions to future security assurances for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
The meeting takes place as part of broader efforts to form a unified stance among Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S., which could be presented to the Russian side. Key topics of discussion include the potential deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine following a ceasefire.
Within the so-called "Coalition of the Willing," there are already countries that are open to maintaining a presence in Ukraine after hostilities cease. At the beginning of January, the President of Ukraine also reported that representatives from military staffs and the defense sector traveled to Paris for a series of meetings.
Further discussions at the leadership level are planned to refine security documents focused on security guarantees and Ukraine's recovery. A series of meetings in the U.S. involving a wide range of countries is also scheduled.
