President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the heating season in Ukraine will commence on October 28. He shared this information during a press conference with journalists on October 27.
According to him, the government has secured funding – approximately 70% of the required amount – for gas imports.
“Gas is a crucial element for heating. We have found 70% of the necessary funds for gas. The government will fully cover the required expenses,” Zelensky stated.
The heating season has already begun for the social sector.
On October 25, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk declared that each region decides independently when to start the heating season, but with the drop in temperatures, it may begin in the coming days.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has stated that this heating season will be the most challenging during the full-scale war.
Last week, the government allocated 8.4 billion hryvnias from the reserve fund for the heating season, which will be received by the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” for the purchase of imported natural gas.
According to legislation, the heating period begins no later than when the average daily temperature is 8 degrees Celsius or lower for three consecutive days and ends when the average daily temperature exceeds 8 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
