The Kyiv Court of Appeals upheld the sentence for a 31-year-old man who committed acts of cruelty against a stray dog, resulting in a 7.5-year prison term. Prosecutors from the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office defended the decision of the Dnipro District Court, finding the man guilty of animal cruelty that led to the animal's death (part 3 of article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The defense attorney requested a reclassification of the charges to seek a lighter sentence of 2 years in prison.

The convicted man, who lived with his partner and her children, brought a stray dog named Milka into their apartment and began to mistreat her.

He not only kicked the dog but also threw her down the stairs while holding his daughter. As a result of the injuries from the blows, the fall, and fatal blood loss, the dog died, as confirmed by expert examinations. The cruel treatment was recorded by surveillance cameras in the building.

The appellate court confirmed that the original court's ruling remains unchanged.
