New Drones to Protect Ukraine

In Ukraine, efforts are underway to create new unmanned aerial vehicles that will enhance the protection of the country's energy infrastructure from Russian attacks.

This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during the “Ukraine – Southeast Europe” summit on June 11 in Odesa.

Development of New Drones

“We have some weapons in development. Some projects are ready, and we are trying to find more funding for mass production. This includes various types of interceptor drones,” the President explained.

He emphasized that the need for new defense measures is extremely urgent, as Russian forces are launching over 300 drones daily against Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky also noted that Ukraine is already using multiple layers of protection for its energy infrastructure, with traditional air defense systems playing a crucial role. At the same time, he stressed the importance of maintaining silence regarding their locations.

“I will not disclose which systems we have and where they are located, as once the Russians learn about our air defense systems, they will target them. Therefore, we are constantly changing our air defense routes,” the President explained.

“Bars” – a new Ukrainian missile drone with a range of up to 800 km

A private company in Ukraine is developing a new missile drone called “Bars,” but details are currently scarce.

According to unofficial information, it is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 700-800 kilometers with a warhead weighing 50-100 kilograms.

By comparison, the Shahed-136/Geran-2 kamikaze drones used by Moscow to attack Ukrainian cities typically have a 50-kilogram warhead and a claimed flight range of 2,500 kilometers, but with a significantly lower speed, making them easier to intercept.
